Description
Glitch Perspectives is a collection of fifty-four, one-of-one abstract, digital paintings by Mazey Moon at mmoonstudios.
Approximations is a glitched abstract digital portrait of you and me and everyone we’ve ever met. We look very very handsome.
This collection is an extremely personal collection to me and at the same time, an opportunity for me to share and to be vulnerable with my experience of changes in ability. My digital paintings are a visual diary and I hope that it can serve collectors and viewers as a conversation starter around something very common and becoming more common, chronic pain.
Some pieces are extremely abstracted with glitch techniques. Often the things that I don’t like to talk about, like assistive devices and medical instruments. This is an attempt for me to see, If I break it apart enough, can it at some point become a spark for inspiration?
Each piece offers a narrative of some kind, even if that narrative is just something to do to distract myself from pain. Many images are self portraits rendered from pieces of past works from before my diagnosis, abstracted and glitched to update my visual language. I’ve included some pop culture references in the collection like Xena, The Housewives, and the women of Physical 100. Images of cultural perfection and power; abstracted and glitched or used as a brush to form another image.
As an artist, I see myself as an alchemist, able to harness the energy of my experiences and transmute them into something powerful and healing. I am driven to shed light on the often-overlooked experiences of disability. Whether temporary or long-term, disability is a universal human experience that touches us all.
Art is by far my all time favorite medicine.
