Description
Edward Thatch, commonly known as Blackbeard, was one of the most notorious and feared pirates in history. He commanded a large ship named the Queen Anne's Revenge, which was originally a French slave ship. Blackbeard outfitted the vessel with 40 cannons and made it his flagship.
Blackbeard's physical appearance added to his intimidating presence. He grew a thick, black beard that he would tie with ribbons and set alight during battles. This tactic was intended to create a terrifying image and intimidate his enemies.
Blackbeard's career as a pirate was characterized by his audacious acts of piracy and his ability to strike fear into the hearts of those who encountered him. He operated primarily in the waters of the West Indies and along the eastern coast of the American colonies, targeting merchant ships and looting their cargo. His reputation for brutality and ruthlessness often allowed him to capture ships without needing to engage in combat.
